Anonymous woman sends a Saudi religious officer to the hospital.

Saudi woman going around in an amusement park with a male friend (legally prohibited in Saudi). stopped by a virtue cop, the young man collapsed but the woman proceeded with punching the cop—to the point where he was taken to the hospital with bruising.

If the 20-something is charged, she could face prison time and lashings. “To see resistance from a woman means a lot,” one women’s rights activist tells the Media Line. “People are fed up with these religious police, and now they have to pay the price for the humiliation they put people through for years and years. This is just the beginning and there will be more resistance.”

Saudi’s archaic laws mean that, in addition to being barred from socialising with men in public, Saudi woman are also banned from driving.

They cannot divorce, inherit, or gain custody of their children, and they must be chaperoned in public by a male relative at all times.
